Branislava Marvanová Vargová got a doctoral degree from psychology (rigorous thesis entitled "Violence against Women in Partner Relationships: The Impact on Duration of Relationship and Its Consequences on Experience of Children"); since 2003 she works as a psychologist in the civic society ROSA which has been established in 1993 as the first women NGO dealing with the issue of violence against women in the Czech Republic. It is a member of WAVE Network Europe. ROSA provides comprehensive services for women, victims of domestic violence: Psychological, social, and legal counseling, SOS hotline and a shelter with confidential address. She represents Coalition of Organizations against Domestic Violence in the Government Council for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men; chair person of the Committee for Prevention of Domestic Violence of which main priorities are: (1) Preparation of the National Action Plan against Domestic Violence, (2) elaboration of standards for services for victims of domestic violence, and (3) introduction of stalking as a new fact in the penal code; external lecturer at the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic; trainer of social workers, police, and health care providers; participant of therapeutic training in Gestalt therapy; regularly publishes on the subject of violence in the family.
