Speaker Bios
Farida Deif is the Middle East and North Africa researcher for the Women's Rights Division of Human Rights Watch, which she joined in December 2003. During this time, she's conducted research and fact-finding on gender-based violence and discrimination in Egypt, Jordan, the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Libya, and Saudi Arabia. She's published extensively in this area and has briefed and lobbied government officials, security forces, donors, and UN agencies on her findings and recommendations. She previously worked with UNICEF's Emergency Programs and UNFPA's Division for Arab States and Europe where she conducted research on gender-based violence and adolescent rights legislation in the Middle East and North Africa. She has also been engaged in advocacy efforts on behalf of Palestinian citizens of Israel with Adalah: The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel.
